Attorney of Counsel, Email Me

Emily Haverkamp is an Air Force brat who lived in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Malaysia, and Ohio before her father retired in the Kansas City area. She attended the University of Kansas for both undergrad and law school before serving in the Peace Corps in Guatemala where she solidified her Spanish language skills. When Emily lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in middle school, her mother worked for the US government screening Vietnamese refugees. This opened her eyes to the struggles many immigrants face in their journeys to the U.S., which was instrumental in making immigration law her career field. Emily worked with migrant farmworkers in Colorado as a legal intern during law school, and after leaving the Peace Corps began work as an immigration attorney in Overland Park, KS. She has continually worked in immigration since 2007, including working for US Citizenship and Immigration Services for nine years with the Asylum Division and International and Refugee Operations. Emily returned to private immigration practice with McDonald Tinker in January 2021 to live closer to her family and advocate directly for immigrants again.

Outside of work, Emily enjoys checking out new restaurants, traveling, and watching Kansas basketball.
